VOIP Service Providers
You are here : Free Cell Phones » VOIP - Voice Over Internet Protocol » VOIP Service ProvidersVOIP Service Providers are probably the hottest thing in the telecommunications industry. In fact the exploding nature of this leading edge technology has attracted the attention of big players from Wall Street. For those of you who don't know what VOIP is or what a VOIP service provider or VOIP Reseller does, here is brief description. VOIP stand for Voice Over Internet Protocol. Simply put your voice is translated into a digital signal and broken down into tiny "packets". These packets are sent over the internet, reassembled and converted back into voice on the other end. Packet transmission is extremely fast, extremely efficient and very cost effective when compared to switch based communication used by traditional telecom companies.
VOIP service providers come in two major categories residential and commercial. Each of the providers has different needs so make sure you start with the right kind. Many companies that provide VOIP service are new startup ventures. Many local and regional telecom companies are investing heavily in the technology and offering some very good promotions to convince customers to switch to this type of service. Another big competitor in the field is the local cable companies. They already provide broadband internet access and adapting that for VOIP usage helps lower development costs.
When you are shopping for VOIP service providers be sure to do your homework and compare different companies. Sales teams are very aggressive and will very often offer promotions. Be careful about the length of term, shorter is usually better, with 2 years being the most you should sign for.
