The General Packet Radio Service or GPRS is a communications protocol that allows a cellular phone to communicate using radio signals without a cellular network. Most people have seen this technology used in Nextel Phones. Many industry insiders refer to it as 2.5G as it acts as a bridge between existing 2G Networks and developing 3G communications.
